“The Challenge of Attracting Talent to the Industrial Sector” by Abel Martínez Badia

I have worked in our country, in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands: telephone prefixes +34, 33, 32, and 31; following this logic, my next destination could be Greece’s +30. From these countries and through extensive travel throughout my professional career, I have observed common challenges facing the industrial sector in cities across our continent. One of the major current industrial challenges in Europe is attracting younger generations to work in large manufacturing plants. This challenge is widespread and shared across Europe. I have seen many companies struggle to meet growing demand due to their inability to recruit the right production personnel. As a result, the criteria for selecting locations for new production facilities are increasingly taking into account the ease of attracting qualified talent, alongside other factors such as competitiveness and sustainability.

I have been impressed by the academic learning programs within the industrial sector in Austria and Switzerland. These are solid educational programs with internships and youth-friendly contracts that add prestige to their work and help them transition into the corporate world. These programs produce skilled workers who are prepared for a more automated and digital world. The industrial sector is an ideal environment for young talent to make a positive impact by leveraging new technologies, and we have the opportunity to highlight these aspects in recruitment campaigns. The perception is widespread: Barcelona is a highly sought-after destination across Europe. So perhaps my future destination really does have something to do with that +30 I mentioned earlier: the reduced 30% tax rate for professionals returning to the country and contributing their expertise to our industry.
