Rooftops<\/h3>\n<p>\u2013 Barcelona has 360-view rooftop experiences for every taste \u2013 whether you fancy a bit of luxury, a trendy hangout or a more chilled space. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\">Some of my favorites include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grandhotelcentral.com\/en\/restaurants\/skybar-rooftop\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Sky Bar at Grand Hotel Central<\/span><\/a> \u2013 on the 8<span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span> floor in the Gothic quarter. Non-guests can visit from 1pm and after 7pm you need a reservation with a minimum 14 Euro consumption. The vibe is stylish with a light Mediterranean menu and great cocktails. (around 16 Euros)<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\">For a different experience, try the rooftop chiringuito \u2013 beach shack at the charming boutique hotel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casabonay.com\/dining-drinks\/chiringuito\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Casa Bonay<\/span><\/a> in Gran Via de les Corts, Catalanes.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>They offer summer barbecue and tapas \u2013 try the grilled steak with chimichurri for Euros 9.5 or the Teriyaki chicken wings for Euros 7.5. They also have a natural wine selection, and your favorite cocktail will set you back 13 Euros. The rooftop bar opens at 18 and it\u2019s better to reserve a table.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\">At the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hduquesadecardona.com\/en\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Duquesa de Cardona<\/span><\/a> Hotel near the Port Vell<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>is another great option, which offers impressive views of the port and the dome of the Basilica de la Merc\u00e8 and live music from Thursday to Sunday.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\">The bar has a luxury, yet cozy feel with teak floors and candles and Mediterranean plants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Enjoy a cocktail for only 11 Euros!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Food options include tapas, paella and a surf and turf menu.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotelpulitzer.es\/en\/fooddrinks\/pulitzer-terrace\/\">Hotel Pulitzer<\/a><\/span> in Carrer de Bergara pulls an afterwork crowd with cool music sessions \u2013 including live bands and DJs from various clubs and collectives on the weekends. from 17h to 23h. This terrace has a lush and exotic feel, the drinks are reasonably priced (From 12 to14 Euros) and light snacks are available. Very pleasant experience all round.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2. Nightime experiences<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">Don\u2019t let the curfew cramp your style \u2013 there are still plenty of fun things to do before the clock strikes 1pm.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.casabatllo.es\/en\/online-tickets\/visit-magic-nights\/\">Magic Nights 2021<\/a><\/span> at Gaudi\u2019s iconic building Casa Batllo on Passeig de Gracia include a tour of the house and the new 10D experience \u2013 an insight into what inspired the artist, as well as a one-hour live music concert (flamenco, jazz, soul, rumba\u2026) and a glass of Cava.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>We loved this! It was very well organized and the tables were far enough apart to comply with COVID measures. The musicians were fantastic and really engaged the crowd.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lapedrera.com\/en\/agenda-activities-barcelona\/cycle\/la-pedrera-jazz\">La Pedrera Jazz<\/a><\/span> \u2013 another one of Gaudi\u2019s masterworks \u2013 Casa Mil\u00e0 \u2013 also in Passeig de Gr\u00e1cia also features jazz nights during the summer<b>.<\/b> The roof terrace transforms into a stunning setting from where to enjoy the views and the vibe. La Pedrera Jazz starts with a free visit to the whale attic \u2014 which resembles a whale\u2019s skeleton, followed by the concert on the roof terrace and a drink.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"s3\">3. Activities in <a href=\"https:\/\/caixaforum.org\/es\/barcelona\/actividades\"><span class=\"s1\">CaixaForum<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>In Barcelona you can experience different activities every night, including expositions, documentaries and discussions \u2013 mostly in Spanish. However, watch out for the music concerts \u2013 such as an evening of Mozart opera.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"s4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barcelonahm.com\/pages\/the-workshop\"><span class=\"s5\">5. Make your own espadrilles<\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">A great activity for mums and daughters \u2013 is to spend a couple of hours making your own colorful espadrilles \u2013 classic Catalan shoes \u2013 in this charming shop in the Gothic Quarter of the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">We loved the experience \u2013 which included a short, fun lesson in the history of these shoes, step-by-step guidance and assistance in making your shoes \u2013 as well as delicious churros and cava.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Highly recommended!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Cost: From 60 Euros, including your shoes.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\">6. Cinema under the stars<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">Whether it\u2019s on the beach after a day in the sun or chilling in a lounge chair on a balmy summer\u2019s evening \u2013 Barcelona\u2019s open-air cinemas is another great staycation evening entertainment option. Here are two of the classic and very popular venues showing films this summer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salamontjuic.org\/es\/programacion-2021\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Sala Montjuic<\/span><\/a> is an outdoor cinema at the foot of the Montjuic castle featuring a variety of films \u2013 including contemporary movies and classics.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Each film is preceded by a short live music performance and a short film screening. Rent a comfy lounge chair or bring your own blanket. (You are not allowed to bring your own chairs this year.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\">The films are projected in original version \u2013 with Spanish subtitles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Basic entrance costs 7.50 Euros, but there are also other combination tickets which include live music or a visit to the castle. Films are shown on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until the 6<span class=\"s2\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span> of August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Tickets must be booked in advance via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salamontjuic.org\/\"><span class=\"s1\">official website.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cinemalliure.com\/platja\/#pll_switcher\">Cinema Lliure<\/a><\/span> in Barceloneta (Playa de la Mar Bella) offers films on Thursday and Sunday nights on the beach \u2013 Space is limited, though, so get there early!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p2\">This year the festival has been extended to screenings in El Prat, Matar\u00f3, Palam\u00f3s and Tossa de Mar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The line-up includes alternative and avant-garde films. Prior reservation is necessary and opens about one week before each session. Bring your own food and blanket.<\/p>\n<h3>8. City beaches<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">Cooling off is a top priority and Barcelona\u2019s beaches offer experiences for all. City beaches such as San Sebastian and Mar Bella in Barceloneta and the beaches of Poblenou are great for playing volleyball, walking, rollerblading and cooling off \u2013 though for clearer water and less crowded and quieter beaches, it\u2019s worth venturing out a bit further.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Nearby beach options that can be reached by car and\/or train include Sitges, Gava Mar and Castelldefels, each with its own character.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">We like Gava Mar (20 minutes by car) and Castelldefels (20-30 minutes) for their beautiful stretches of white sandy beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Gava Mar doesn\u2019t have many chiringuitos (beach bars and restaurants on the beach), whereas you\u2019re spoilt for choice in Castelldefels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Sitges is another nice option, a former fishing village popular with expats, with different beaches to choose from and a lovely town with whitewashed buildings and a Bohemian character with many nice restaurants and shops to explore.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p2\">Outdoor Swimming Pools<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">Our favorite outdoor pools in the city are the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.picornell.cat\/v_picornell\/informacion\/informacionver.asp?cod=48518&amp;te=134&amp;idage=49149&amp;vap=0\"><span class=\"s1\">Piscina Municipal de Montjuic<\/span><\/a> for its spectacular views of the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Built for the 1992 Olympics, the 25-meter pool offers fairly basic facilities. It can be reached via the Montjuic Funicular or by bus (55.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnab.cat\/disponibilidad-calles-piscinas\/\"><span class=\"s8\">Club Nataci\u00f3 Atl\u00e8tic<\/span><\/a><\/span> in Barceloneta \u2013 is a seafront swimming club on the Sant Sebasti\u00e1 beach. There are two outdoor pools \u2013 one for swimmers and the other one for leisure. Facilities include sun loungers.<\/p>\n<h3>9. <span class=\"s4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.portaventuraworld.com\/en\"><span class=\"s5\">PortAventura World theme park<\/span><\/a> <\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p2\">If you\u2019re looking for a day of thrills and spills \u2013 Port Aventura is about one hour\u2019s drive from Barcelona and is great for kids of all ages. Apart from the more than 40 themed roller coasters and other thrilling rides, the complex also features a separate aquatic park and the Ferrari land theme park \u2013 a live Ferrari experience for the whole family.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"p1\">For me the city has offered a richness of life unparallel to any of the other cities where I lived.
