Lapso studios in Barcelona, for body, mind, and soul

Eugenia Llopart de Mercader - CEO and co-founder of Lapso Studios

What is Lapso exactly?

It's a boutique indoor cycling fitness studio. We offer a different routine that varies according to the BPM's of the twelve songs we work with. We aspire to offer members an enjoyable tailor-made experience that involves working on their body, mind and soul.

When was the company founded and when did you start working in this company?

It was founded in 2021 by 5 people. I started working in May 2021.

What do you like most about your job?

The dynamism, working with the public, and the fact that people decide that they will train at LAPSO on a daily basis.

And what do you like least?

Nothing that I can think of.

What do you think your company is particularly good at?

In the world of fitness that is saturated, we manage to offer an approach that works all parts of the body, while motivating users to meet their goals and to enjoy themselves as a community.

What is your main challenge?

To encourage our target market to see Lapso not only as a place to do physical activity every day but also as a leisure activity and a space for relaxing.

Where is your business located? Do you know why this location was chosen?

On Diagonal, in Plaça Francesc Macià . It is clearly a strategic location because of the large companies nearby and the high volumes of people passing through.

What do you like most about the neighborhood where you work?

I like the fact that there are so many different kinds of people.

How important is Barcelona for your company?

All of the founders are from Barcelona, and it is a cosmopolitan city that has a growing expat public.

With which city would you compare Barcelona?

It is difficult to compare Barcelona with another city as it is has everything! But if I had to name one other city, I would compare it with Cape Town, a cosmopolitan city with sea and mountains that attracts people from all over the world.

What city model should Barcelona adopt?

I think Barcelona is a city which has considerable diversity, like Montreal, but we don't know how to take full advantage of it. I mention Montreal because when I lived there I discovered that it attracts people from all over the world. In many cases, Canadians are descendants of different countries. It is very open, which makes foreigners feel very much at home.

What best practices from other cities would you like Barcelona to adopt?

Above all, I would like people to have the opportunity to do sport in pay-per-use boutique fitness studios. The system is already well established in cities like Mexico City, Bogota, and Paris, and I think Barcelona should not be left behind.

What do you ask of the Barcelona of the future?

To open itself up and show the world what it really is. Our culture, landscape, and climate are so unique that we need to share them with the whole world.
