«Barcelona combines tradition and modernity», by Martin Grinberg

Martin Grinberg, of Argentinian and Italian origin, has lived in Barcelona for five years. With more than twenty years of experience in technology and innovation, he has worked in Europe and Latin America and is currently the CEO and co-founder of Digital Smart Group and Vanguard Software Factories, technology companies with an international presence.

Why did you choose Barcelona?

Barcelona brings together a unique combination: quality of life, cultural diversity, and an expanding innovation ecosystem. After living in the United Kingdom and Germany, I was looking to balance professional life with a human and creative environment connected to the sea. Its spirit, its energy, and its balance between progress and well-being make it the ideal place to undertake new ventures.

What are the city’s strengths?

Barcelona combines tradition and modernity. Its cultural diversity and cosmopolitan spirit create a fertile environment for innovation. The climate and lifestyle enhance well-being and productivity. In addition, its commitment to being a smart city and its startup ecosystem strengthen a sustainable and open business culture.

Which aspects do you think could be improved?

Barcelona must accelerate digitalization and simplify processes to attract investment. It is key to boost local innovation and support SMEs and startups. It must also improve access to housing and strengthen sustainability. If it succeeds in balancing development and quality of life, it will consolidate its leadership in green innovation.

What do you expect from Barcelona in the coming years?

I envision a Barcelona that is a benchmark in technology and sustainability, with stable policies and strategic investment. One where digitalization transforms key sectors and local talent grows through digital training. If it maintains its Mediterranean essence, its creativity and humanity, it will remain a model city on a global level.

Which city do you consider to be your home city? What do you miss most?

Without a doubt, my city is Barcelona. I have lived in many places, but here I found a balance between rhythm and calm, innovation and nature. I enjoy the urban energy and the tranquility of Montseny. I only miss having more spaces where nature and technology coexist, although Barcelona is moving in that direction.
