"Barcelona is a city full of opportunities" by Fulvio Denza

Fulvio Denza, 27 years old, is a software engineer at Civo, a cloud provider that helps companies easily host applications, speeding up development and reducing costs. An Italian, he has been living in Barcelona since September 2022. Passionate about technology, he works on personal projects such as apps and platforms. He is in the process of publishing a poetry book in Italy. He has a girlfriend and no children.

Why did you choose Barcelona?

I chose Barcelona for its tech ecosystem. Barcelona offers a stimulating environment with many inputs and fosters the development of tech projects, allowing me to meet people from all over the world with different perspectives.

What are the city’s strengths?

I would highlight the drive to take action and improve every day, the quality of life, and the openness to innovation. Barcelona is a city full of opportunities.

Which aspects of the city need to be improved? How?

Although Barcelona is tech-oriented, it could improve by simplifying bureaucratic procedures and doing more for housing rights. Additionally, it should encourage the creation of startups founded by young people and follow the model of Estonia, where you can open a company in just a few minutes with a secure and advanced digital infrastructure.

What do you expect from Barcelona in the coming years?

I hope Barcelona continues to establish itself as a European tech hub, fostering innovation and attracting investment in disruptive projects. That it keeps supporting entrepreneurs and facilitates the arrival of international talent, becoming a place where ideas turn into realities with a global impact.

Which city do you consider to be your home city? What do you miss most?

My heart will always be in Italy, but I feel adopted by Barcelona. I miss my family and certain Italian cultural aspects, but I regret that the situation there doesn’t favor young professionals. I wish Italy would offer more opportunities to prevent brain drain and retain the talent that now seeks a future abroad, like me.
