Investing in local talent, the future of culture, by Laura Peribáñez

The Royal College of Music (RCM) is one of four UK universities in the Top 10 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 for performing arts. A year of study at a university like the RCM costs almost €30,000, and yet every year more international students arrive willing to work hard to make it possible, and the British stay too. The city and the universities offer the best conditions for the development of musicians and artists.

"Barcelona's cultural and musical offerings are as good as most European cities through initiatives like the Barcelona Obertura Festival, promoted by Barcelona Global," says Laura Peribáñez. Investing in professional development and engaging in a local talent development plan is clarified as a key area to promote musical opportunities. Likewise, the cellist considers that international projection should be favored with tours abroad, such as the one that will take the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona to perform for the first time at Cadogan Hall in London in October. In this way, an attractive image of universities can be projected for international students. “We have a talent that has the best space to develop, but not always the opportunities to do so,” laments Peribáñez.
