"Integrated planning and creativity are key for a successful mobility model" by Regina Morell

In the Netherlands , it is common to start the day by checking schedules using the intermodal transport app and the rain forecast, in order to decide the best time to begin the bike ride to the covered parking at the train station, travel the interurban leg seated and working on a laptop, and finish the journey within the city by bus, tram, or metro. This is made possible by a highly efficient, comfortable, and sustainable public transport network, recognized as one of the best in the world.

 

While acknowledging the differences between Dutch cities and our own, such as topography and population distribution, we can learn from their integration, intermodality, and creativity in overcoming obstacles. Beyond the pressing issues of funding and transport management in Barcelona, I would highlight integrated planning and creativity as key factors to ensure the successful development of the mobility model.
