Challenges and solutions to generate affordable housing in the metropolitan region of Barcelona
Yesterday we presented Barcelona Global's challenges and solutions to generate affordable housing in the metropolitan region of Barcelona, within the framework of the Barcelona Global Challenge project.
Access to housing is a structural problem that affects the well-being of the entire population and the competitiveness of Barcelona and its area of influence. A deficit that will be aggravated in the future by the growth of new models of coexistence and despite the low increase in the population.
The report, prepared with more than 56 experts and members of Barcelona Global, concludes that there is land available in the short and medium term to generate affordable housing and that there is financing to develop it. To face this challenge, the document proposes an Acceleration Plan for the construction of affordable housing, greater public-private collaboration and more proactive management by administrations.
The report has been coordinated by Maite Barrera Xaubet, President of Barcelona Global, Mercè Conesa, CEO of the Association and Jaume Oliu, CEO of Raset Ventures, and has had the participation of Enric Batlle (Batlle i Roig), Lluis Cases (Garrigues), Anna Gener (Savills), Pau Pérez de Acha (Sareb), Marcel Prunera (Guinot Prunera), Manel Rodriguez (SALAS) and Carme Trilla (Fundació Habitat 3).
