The first meeting of the BEST Foundation

The first meeting of the board of trustees of the BEST Foundation (Barcelona Education in Science and Technology) was held the last 31st of January. The BEST is the foundation created for the management of the new university degree promoted by Barcelona Global, which combines studies of Industrial Engineering and Economics, through Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Joaquim Coello, Andreu Mas-Colell, and Jordi Camí are part of the Foundation Board of trustees representing Barcelona Global.

Barcelona Global targets excellence in education to foster Barcelona as the go-to city for talent. In collaboration with Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and a third international university, Barcelona Global is promoting the creation of a new inter-university degree in industrial engineering and economics in Barcelona. With business involvement, a global outlook and a focus on boosting the city´s economic competitiveness, this new degree will be designed to produce excellent professionals in the fields of industrial engineering and economics. 

This degree responds to companies' request for specific profiles which combine a strong knowledge of industrial engineering with knowledge of economics and suppose a new management model that connects excellence-based universities with an international positioning and the involvement of the enterprises to enhance access to education based on meritocracy.

At this meeting,  the new director of the Degree was introduced,  Joaquim Minguella, a UPC´s Industrial Engineer with wide international experience.

First-year students will occupy the classrooms in September of 2018.
