  • 1st Barcelona Global Summit: Innovation in urban tourism

On February 12th, in a press conference in the DayOne space of CaixaBank, we have announced the 1st Barcelona Global Summit: Innovation in urban tourism, which will take place on Wednesday, March 21st, at the CaixaForum Barcelona and has as objective to make known the proposals of the Barcelona Global to improve the relationship between city and tourism as an engine of economic development, well-being and international reputation.

The Summit will have presentations from leading industry experts: professor Greg Clark CBE, Carl Weisbrod, NYC Department of City Planning, Deede Weithorn, Former Commissioner of Miami Beach, Julie May Elligson, CEO of Cape Town International Convention Center and Geerte Udo, Director of Marketing at Amsterdam Marketing. The introduction will be presented by representatives of CaixaBank and WTTC and Gonzalo Rodés will present the overview of the proposals which are based on the analysis of the challenges that Barcelona is facing as a tourist destination and how other cities have overcome similar difficulties.

One of the missions of Barcelona Global is to promote sustainable tourism growth has a positive impact on the city and its inhabitants. Barcelona is a world-class tourism success story. In recent years, however, tourism development in the city has shown signs of exhaustion. This fact combined with the complex situation that the country is facing will require some repositioning of Barcelona and its surroundings to continue being an attractive destination, which will imply working on a coordinated and sustainable tourism strategy to promote the region and foster economic development.
